WalkSutra Physiotherapy
The first question is often…
“Is this a stroke?”
Then come the questions that follow.
Behind these questions is something even deeper.
The fear of losing confidence.
The fear of losing your identity.
At WalkSutra, we understand that Bell’s Palsy affects much more than the facial muscles.
It can affect confidence, communication, social interactions, emotional wellbeing, and the simple joy of smiling without thinking.
That’s why our rehabilitation approach focuses not only on facial movement but also on helping you regain confidence throughout your recovery journey.
Every person experiences Bell’s Palsy differently.
Some people recover quickly.
Others experience prolonged weakness, muscle tightness, unwanted facial movements (synkinesis), or difficulty with eye protection and facial expressions.
Because recovery varies from person to person, rehabilitation should always be personalised.
Our journey begins with a comprehensive facial and neurological assessment. We evaluate facial muscle activation, symmetry at rest and during movement, eye closure, lip function, speech-related movements, eating and drinking abilities, facial coordination, and the impact the condition has on your daily life.
This detailed assessment helps us understand your current function and guides a rehabilitation programme designed around your individual needs and stage of recovery.
Our rehabilitation philosophy is simple.
Recovery is not about forcing facial muscles to move.
It is about helping the facial nerve and muscles work together in a coordinated, natural, and functional way.
Our rehabilitation programmes combine evidence-informed facial neuromuscular rehabilitation, guided facial exercises, mirror feedback training, movement re-education, relaxation techniques, massage where clinically appropriate, eye protection education, functional activity training, and personalised home exercise programmes.
For selected patients, advanced rehabilitation technologies may be incorporated when clinically appropriate. These may include biofeedback-assisted facial muscle training, neuromuscular electrical stimulation in carefully selected cases where indicated, therapeutic laser therapy when appropriate, and digital movement analysis to support rehabilitation. Technology is used to complement—not replace—skilled clinical assessment and active rehabilitation.
Recovery from Bell’s Palsy follows its own timeline.
Many people experience meaningful improvement over weeks to months, while others require longer-term rehabilitation to optimise facial symmetry and function. Regular reassessment allows your rehabilitation programme to progress safely as recovery continues.
Every rehabilitation programme begins with understanding facial muscle function, nerve recovery, eye closure, speech-related movements, symmetry, and everyday challenges.
No two recovery journeys are the same. Your programme is designed according to your stage of recovery, clinical findings, and personal goals.
Our rehabilitation focuses on improving coordinated facial movement, reducing unwanted movement patterns, supporting nerve recovery, and promoting functional facial expressions through evidence-informed techniques.
When clinically appropriate, rehabilitation may include biofeedback, therapeutic laser therapy, digital facial movement assessment, and selected neuromuscular rehabilitation technologies to complement active facial retraining.
Recovery extends beyond the clinic. We provide structured home exercise programmes, education, regular progress reviews, and practical guidance to help you continue improving with confidence.
Bell’s Palsy may change the way your face moves for a time.
It does not change who you are.
With timely assessment, personalised rehabilitation, and consistent guidance, many people experience meaningful improvements in facial function and confidence.
Whether your goal is smiling naturally, speaking more comfortably, protecting your eye, or simply feeling like yourself again, our rehabilitation team is here to support you with compassion, clinical expertise, and personalised care.
