WalkSutra Physiotherapy
Surviving a critical illness is a remarkable achievement.
But for many people, leaving the Intensive Care Unit is only the beginning of a new journey.
After days or weeks in the ICU, even the simplest movements can feel unfamiliar.
Sitting up in bed may require assistance.
Standing feels exhausting.
Walking a few steps seems impossible.
Breathing takes more effort.
Muscles that once felt strong may now feel weak.

Families often ask…
At WalkSutra, we understand that critical illness affects much more than the condition that brought someone to the ICU.
Prolonged bed rest, mechanical ventilation, surgery, severe infections, trauma, neurological disorders, and multiple organ illness can all lead to significant muscle weakness, reduced endurance, breathing difficulties, impaired balance, and loss of independence.
That is why rehabilitation should begin as early as it is medically safe.
Our goal is not simply to help patients leave the ICU.
Our goal is to help them rebuild the strength, confidence, and function needed to return to everyday life.
Every rehabilitation journey begins with a comprehensive critical care and functional assessment.
Working in collaboration with the treating medical team, we evaluate muscle strength, breathing pattern, respiratory function, mobility, balance, joint movement, endurance, neurological status, ability to sit, stand, transfer, walk, and perform everyday activities.
Instead of asking only,
“What illness did you survive?”
We ask,
“What do you need to regain your independence?”
Because meaningful rehabilitation is measured by what patients are able to do—not simply by what they have overcome.
Our ICU rehabilitation programmes combine evidence-informed early mobilisation, respiratory physiotherapy, breathing exercises, airway clearance techniques where indicated, bed mobility training, sitting and standing progression, transfer training, walking rehabilitation, balance training, progressive strengthening, functional mobility, positioning, pressure injury prevention strategies, caregiver education, and personalised rehabilitation plans that evolve throughout recovery.
For patients recovering from stroke, spinal cord injury, major surgery, sepsis, trauma, prolonged ventilation, COVID-19, cardiac illness, or other critical conditions, rehabilitation is tailored according to their medical stability, functional abilities, and recovery goals.
When clinically appropriate, advanced rehabilitation technologies may complement active rehabilitation. These may include Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) for selected neurological conditions, Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES), robotic gait training, Body Weight Supported Treadmill Training (BWSTT), tilt table therapy, bedside cycle ergometry, inspiratory muscle training, biofeedback, and digital movement assessment. Every technology is introduced only when clinically appropriate and as part of a comprehensive rehabilitation programme.
Every rehabilitation programme begins with understanding respiratory function, muscle strength, mobility, balance, endurance, neurological status, and the challenges affecting recovery.
We focus on helping patients regain movement safely through structured progression from bed mobility to standing, walking, and functional independence, always in coordination with the treating medical team.
Our rehabilitation combines respiratory physiotherapy, therapeutic exercise, mobility training, strength development, functional rehabilitation, and patient and caregiver education to support recovery after critical illness.
When clinically appropriate, rehabilitation may incorporate FES, NMES, robotic gait training, BWSTT, tilt table therapy, inspiratory muscle training, bedside cycling, biofeedback, and movement analysis technology to complement active rehabilitation.
Recovery continues long after discharge. We help patients rebuild endurance, restore confidence, improve quality of life, and return safely to home, work, and community participation.
Recovery after critical illness is rarely measured in giant leaps.
It is built one movement at a time.
Whether you or your loved one is recovering from surgery, severe infection, neurological illness, trauma, prolonged ventilation, or another critical condition, our rehabilitation team is here to provide compassionate, personalised, and evidence-informed care at every stage of recovery.
